Dearest Grandma Maynard

August 2, 1915 - December 16, 2007
Two days after arriving to my parents home in Utah for the holidays, my dear, sweet Grandmother passed away. I feel a world of emotions inside. How fortunate we were to have had my Grandma LaNell live with us for 18 years. Her Husband, Cecil, passed away the same time of year 19 years ago. Grandma would always say, "I think Cec has forgotten about me down here and doesn't want me anymore!" She lived an incredibly full life and at age 92 was still plugging away with all of her dignity about her. In her final years she struggled to see and hear well, otherwise strong and healthy to the end. I think about the word "end" and what it feels like to endure faithfully to "the end". She did. An example of patience, service, and unwavering faith and knowledge in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As I think about the goals to improve myself this year, her rich example will be in my thoughts. But what fills my heart the most is gratitude. Gratitude for her life, her deep love towards my family, and gratitude that the children and I were able to spend one last day with her before she left us. My heart is full. This is the last picture we have of Grandma. We flew in on Friday, December 14, 2007 on Mimi's birthday and celebrated at Mimi's Cafe with family and friends. Grandma presented Mimi with a generous gift of five dollars! You can see how happy Mimi was showing it off to her party guests. Grandma later passed on to Katie a five dollar bill...an early birthday present I'm guessing. I'll miss you Grandma. I'll miss your homemade white bread, your lessons taught while I was growing up under the same roof, your way with children, (especially my own), your grace, your sweet lullaby's that I will continue to sing to my children, and last but not least, your enthusiasm and passion for life. Save a spot for me in heaven.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but it sounds like her and your grandpa will have a sweet reunion in heaven.

I think one of my favorite memories was a birthday party you had downstairs at Grandma's. We had a sleepover down there. It was so fun. You must have been 12 or something. She is well loved.
